Questions
Hi Friends!!! Elf Ears/Ishaan is back with another post. Hope you all are doing well. So, today let's talk about Questions. We humans have so many questions and it is a good thing in my opinion because he who asks a question remains a fool for five minutes. He who does not ask remains a fool forever.
As I see it asking questions is just the first way to begin change. I have so many questions myself, such as: what if the universe is conscious?, what if you were the last human on earth?, what if all the people of the earth lived in the same skyscraper?, what if my bones would be bulletproof?, can I control my lucid dreaming?, what if Google became sentient? what if humans were silicon-based instead of carbon-based? Or what if......Yup, Let's hold that thought. I guess I have proved my point about questions. My god, I guess I really overthink stuff when it comes to questions.
So, there I was sitting at home. As I recall it I was looking out the window and my mind was on a field trip to Dimension-X that is when I thought:
What if love didn't exist?
Now, this question was an intriguing one and so, I began to think. Firstly, when I say love I do not mean only the romantic type. I am also referring to platonic love between family members, friends, and, believe it or not, even co-workers. Because love extends to various aspects of life. So, how would the world be without it? Let's see
Love is not as simple as the “happily ever after” tales you may have heard. Instead, it’s more like a complex dance of neurochemicals. Falling in love starts with an attraction between two people, and evolves into an attachment. When we fall in love, it stimulates the pleasure center of the brain. And that results in the release of feel-good chemicals such as dopamine, oxytocin, serotonin, and adrenaline. These chemicals don’t just put a smile on your face, they’re also important for your overall well-being. But, I am not here to be a science professor so, let's not go deep into the science.
Friendships will diminish, and family bonds will be strained. Bonding between parents and infants will not form as strongly, which could seriously affect the child’s social and cognitive development. Moreover, social gatherings and physical interactions between people would become more of a chore than anything else(now this doesn't seem like a very far-fetched idea considering many introverts and anti-social people consider social gatherings like a chore even now😅)
The economy would take a major hit because we make a lot of money off love. The industries most associated with love are jewelry, flowers, candy, and greeting cards. And they each add billions of dollars to the US economy every year.
Even the music industry would be crippled without love. It has been estimated that over 100 million love songs have been recorded. What would we sing about if we didn’t have love and breakups? If this world without love becomes the new normal, then it will be a less kind world, as people won’t feel a need to be caring towards each other. People would be more grumpy, mean, angry, etc. This would probably also increase our problems, causing fights, war, and god knows what.
Apart from all this, another alarming long-term effect would be that, without love, people will no longer be driven to have families. Humans would spend very little or no time procreating. Thus, leading to a decrease in population and eventually extinction of humans.
But, we have seen that human beings have evolved over the past thousands of years. There is always a possibility that humans may evolve to start feeling love even in such a condition. So, what guarantees that a world without love, will stay without love?
Now, tell me your views about this question in the comments.
What I ended upon was that, we all should appreciate love and not take it for granted(while it still exists). So, appreciate the people who love you and those who you love.
Bye!
