Fear is a LIAR
You’ve run upstairs to grab your cell phone from the bedside table. Swinging the bedroom door open, it takes a second for your eyes to adjust to the dark. That’s when you see it. A looming shape in the corner of the room. You freeze. Adrenaline courses through you. Your heart is beating so fast you can feel it through your chest. Your muscles tighten. This is it. In the corner of your mind, you always knew creatures existed, and here is one now, in your bedroom, with unknown intent. Your thoughts fly past you a mile a minute, while your hand desperately scrambles with the light switch. Finally, you manage to flick it on. Light enters the room, and you see the "creature" is actually just the winter jacket you threw over the closet door earlier. A laugh escapes you, and you grab your cell phone before heading back downstairs. But you keep the light on.
You have probably experienced this before (if you haven't, then I guess I am the odd one out). I experienced this just a few days ago.
Oh, I forgot the introduction!!!
Hi Friends!!! This is Ishaan and I am back with another post. Hope you all are doing well. So, today let's talk about fear. All of us fear a lot of things and there is no end to the list. Then there are some people out there who do not fear anything, (or maybe they just haven't met the thing that they are afraid of).
So, here I was reminiscing, and I was thinking of all the things that I have feared in life. I ended up having a big list of things, but then I also noticed that there are many fears that I have overcome with time. Like when I went into the pool for the first time. I wanted to learn to swim, but I had the fear that I might sink. However, I have now overcome that fear. I learned how to swim. And I am still scared of a lot of things like lizards, spiders, public speaking, and much more.
There is nothing quite like the feeling of fear. It sets us on edge. Fear comes from the brain. When people encounter something that frightens them, the hypothalamus in the brain reacts by releasing a series of chemicals to the sympathetic nervous system and the adrenal-cortical system. So basically, it activates your fight-or-flight response system.
Fear is a pretty important trait to have since it helps us safely navigate and make decisions in dangerous situations. Fear can prevent us from making rash decisions. However, this fear shouldn't stop you from progressing or from moving forward in life.
Sometimes fear can also entertain us. Like when you watch horror movies curled up in a blanket or walk through a haunted house at a carnival or ride the biggest and fastest roller coasters, we trick our brain into triggering our fight-or-flight responses and experience that amazing cocktail of adrenaline, hormones, and dopamine, but also know that we are safe and secure.
I have always had this weird relationship with fear. I used to let fear cling to me like a clout-chasing TikTok star. I let it follow me everywhere I went and find a way to ruin every good moment. Until one day I realized, fear is only as powerful as the power I give it. It's unrealistic to think that you will ever get rid of it completely, but every day you do get the power to wake up, look fear in its clout-chasey face and say, "No! I don't believe you, you are a liar." I guess what I am trying to say is, sometimes you have to stick up for yourself.....to yourself. Whether that be fear or self-sabotaging negative thoughts, you are powerful, way more powerful than you realize, and when fear floats into that brain of yours, don't let it trick you into believing that it's the one in control. You are.
Fear is nothing more than an obstacle that stands in the way of progress. By overcoming our fears, we can move forward, stronger and wiser within ourselves. Be braver than your fears. Be stronger than your weaknesses.
So, don't let fear cloud your judgment and your decisions, and comment to tell me your opinions.
I'll see you in the next blog. Until then be happy, be safe, and be you.
Byeeeee!!!!
