Favorites

"What's your favorite place in the world?" this was the question that they had asked me. So, I began to think of all the places that I had been to, and believe me when I say that my bed was one of the first things that came to my mind. I continued to think, but couldn't choose one place. There were so many to choose from. But in the end, I made up my mind and said, "I don't have a favorite place. What I do have are favorite people, and when I am with those people, every place feels special." (Should I have just said "My bed"? Meh, who cares.)

Hi Friends!!! This is Ishaan and I am back with another post. Hope you all are doing well. So, today's post is about our favorites. Now as you all know, most of us have many favorite things - a favorite place, favorite food, favorite book, favorite movie, favorite person, favorite color, or other smaller things such as our favorite pair of socks - and the list goes on.

So, as is evident we all have many favorites, and these favorites vary A LOT from person to person. What may be my favorite simply may not be liked by some other person. Let's take an example, my favorite plant would be a white rose or a peony, but someone else may just settle with mint because of its pleasant smell.

At times, it is difficult to have a favorite, because there are too many options to choose from. Now I have my opinions on which movies I like and which I didn't, but I cannot choose one as my favorite. Similarly, there are too many choices in books.

There are a few people who ask about your favorite things because they want to know more about you but at times, we don't have a single answer.

So, a question comes to mind: "Do I need to have a list of all my favorite things?"

Well, I don't think so. When you come to think of it, our favorites are just the things that we may prefer more than other things of the same kind. Sometimes it’s contextual….. I will be happy eating whatever is local and fresh wherever I happen to be. I will fall in love with the brilliant grey-blue of the ocean on a winter afternoon, as I will with the smoldering reds and oranges of the leaves that fall. I will listen to a song nonstop for a few days if it speaks to me, but once I have absorbed it, it’s on to the next. As far as places, I have been to so many in my wanders it would be unfair to choose. I think many people choose specific tangible things for their favorites. Some of us choose intangibles.

Now if having favorites is not important, then why do people keep asking for our favorite stuff?

It's simply human nature. Favorites of any person give a brief introduction of their personality. Sometimes we ask for people's favorites to find out if we have something in common or basically to strike a familiarity and find people with common interests. At times, it also helps us to understand what type of person one is talking to.

So, it doesn't matter whether or not you have a list of favorites. Perhaps my favorite thing is the feeling of appreciation and awe I have learned to have for whatever is right in front of me….

So, do you have a favorite thing? If yes then what is it? Do tell me in the comments.

Hope you have a wonderful day. See you in the next blog, until then be safe, be happy, and be you.

Byeeeee!!!!
